Why does my dog need collagen?

Collagen is a structural protein found in skin, tendons and cartilage. Vitakyn combines collagen types I, II & III with glucosamine and hyaluronic acid, two natural components of cartilage and joint fluid, in an amount you measure for your dog.

Skin is like a wall. Collagen is part of the mortar.

An honest comparison: powder is often cheaper per gram. Drops are the easiest to measure.

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Write to us.

What is collagen, anyway?

Collagen is the main structural protein in connective tissue: in skin, tendons, cartilage and bone. A large part of it is made of the amino acids glycine, proline and hydroxyproline.

What does "hydrolysed" mean?

The collagen has been broken down by enzymes into small pieces (peptides). These dissolve easily in liquid and are digested and absorbed in the gut like other protein building blocks.

Why liquid and not powder?

A pipette makes it easy to give the right amount for your dog's weight, there's nothing to stir in, and many dogs take it happily. Powder is often cheaper per gram of collagen. Both can make sense.

Can I give my dog collagen made for people?

Better not. Products for people often contain flavourings or sweeteners, and xylitol (birch sugar) is toxic to dogs, even in small amounts. The amount also isn't matched to your dog's weight.

Does Vitakyn replace treatment from the vet?

No. Vitakyn is a complementary feed, not a medicine. It doesn't treat, cure or prevent any disease. If your dog is ill, in pain or on medication, talk to your vet before adding any supplement. Feel free to show them the label.
